Year Nine Certificate II Adventures
For the past three weeks the Mathematics Foundation classes of Mr Quartermaine and Mrs Potter have been completing some Mathematics Units from the Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways to enable our students to get a ‘running start’ for their work next year in Year Ten.
The Units have included Workplace Scenarios on catering and displays, using the mathematics of measuring, calculations, conversions and mental computations. The students have dealt with the mathematics of a pet shop, the meanings of different signs in the workplace and a peer assessment of a student from the other class as they establish a display of Servite Sport. The Units presented by both teachers were delivered via a OneNote that then enabled students to photograph and upload for checking and signing off. The OneNote will be uploaded by the Information Technology Team into folders that will be used for next years’ Certificate.
It has been widely received by students as a worthwhile experience and many have commented gratefully on the opportunity to get a head-start for next year. Congratulations to all students for their enthusiasm, diligence and perseverance on topics that offered opportunities for extension, and thanks to Mr Schirripa and Ms Lee for their assistance on the day.
