iServi News | 12 April 2019 | Term 1, Week 10
As you are aware, the College is currently working through a process to update Sports and Priory uniforms. At the forefront of our design thinking is to encourage students to wear their uniform with great pride and allow them to feel comfortable and confident, ready to become involved in activities and stretch the boundaries of their learning.
Our most recent focus has been on a refresh of the Priory logos that will appear on the new Priory shirts, due for release in Semester 2. We have undertaken a very rich and rewarding consultative process involving students, staff, parents, the College Council and of course the Servite Friars in ensuring the updated designs truly capture the essence and charisms of our Priories.
The Priories are firmly entrenched in the history of the school and indeed the Servite Order. They represent significant places in the journey of the Servite Friars as they spread outward from the Order’s birthplace in Florence to different parts of the world in service of others. They also represent decades of wonderful pastoral care and support, deep friendship and quality relationships for students, staff and families at the College.
We are therefore very excited to formally launch the update Priory logos which, in addition to adorning our Priory uniform, will also be integrated into the Masterplan of the College to provide ‘touchstones’ or places of reflection on the campus for our community. The contemporary designs provide a direct link to previous designs and strengthen the symbolism connected to the core charisms of each Priory.
Lent is an important period in the life of the Catholic Church. It is a “special time of prayer, penance, sacrifice and good works in preparation of the celebration of Easter”. It is a time when we can stop and look to the needs of others.
This Lent, Pope Francis has been challenging us all to not let this “season of grace pass in vain”. He has encouraged us to “leave behind our selfishness and self-absorption, and turn to Jesus’ Pasch. Let us stand beside our brothers and sisters in need, sharing our spiritual and material goods with them”.
As Servites we are called to serve and therefore connect strongly to the Pope’s latest message. Is serving others, we value mercy and justice. We aim to mirror Mary’s courage and compassion through stepping forward to support those around us in need.
We wish all of our families a happy and holy Easter. May the Lord’s blessing be with you in this time of celebration and joy.
End of Term One
Term One has been a busy and exciting one, filled with many exciting learning opportunities for our students. The holiday break gives us all time to pause, rest and also to review and reset some of our personal goals. The Interim reports, which are now available via SEQTA, provide an important snapshot of student performance over the term and should promote quality conversations about areas of celebration and potential improvement.
The holiday break of course also provides the opportunity for us to reconnect with families and friends and to spend some quality time together. We wish all of our community well for an enjoyable and relaxing holiday break.
