Dear Parents and Guardians

Welcome to Week 9

St Juliana Feast Day

On Tuesday this week we celebrated our St Juliana Feast Day. St Juliana is an important figure in the life of our College and is one of our patron Saints. Given her significance to us, it is appropriate to reflect on her life and the impact that she had on those around her.

St Juliana shows us what can be achieved through courage, determination and faith in God. Her achievements are enormous and are particularly significant given the time, place and the culture of the world in which she lived. St Juliana committed her life to God and to the service to others, that is, to do the work of Jesus. She put others' needs before her own. St Juliana made sacrifices in service of others.

Year 11 and Year 12 Subject Selection for 2017

Over the next five weeks, Year 10 and 11 students will be choosing their subjects for Year 11 and 12, 2017. We would like to ensure that parents and students have as much information as possible about the WACE and the subjects we offer at Servite College so that you can make informed choices and each student can achieve their desired goal and pathway.

Year 11 students will receive a letter and a subject selection form on Monday 27 June and Year 10 students will be receiving their letters and subject selection forms on Thursday 30 June 2016.

Making effective choices

Ultimately, effective choices depend upon knowledge – knowledge of self and one's God-given talents, knowledge of available pathways and knowledge of possibilities for the future.

One of the most important things to realise is that employment trends have changed incredibly in recent times. There is a developing trend for young adults to experience a number of different jobs in their lifetime, rather than just one. There are also some very practical and highly successful pathways available for students into either permanent or part time employment that were not even available a few years ago.

Saint Juliana Chalk Art

Picture04In the tradition of street art often found along the sidewalks of Florence, Italy, Year 12 girls from Visual Art ATAR and Certificate III Art classes joined together to create a wonderful tribute to Saint Juliana. The process began by using a projector to beam the image of Saint Juliana onto the wall of the stairs in the Alexis Building. The students then helped their very talented Visual Art Teacher, Ms Patti Howells, to place layers of black chalk onto the back of the paper, which they then hung and pressed over the lines. This then transferred the image to the wall. Following this important step, the girls chose chalk pastels to gradually add colour and definition to the image which slowly transformed into an amazing image of Saint Juliana.

Thank you and congratulations are extended to Ms Patti Howells.
