On the 30 August, Servite’s Student Youth Ministry went to the Priory for a Ministry Retreat, accompanied by Mr Crossley, Sr Chitra and Fr Ruben. We started the day with various ice-breakers to get to know each other’s names. Fr Ruben and Sr Chitra introduced what it meant to be called a ‘ministry’. Next, we reflected on today’s gospel and wrote what it meant to us.
After our first break for recess, the Ministry and Service leaders Shanara and Kelly came to visit us and talked about their personal experiences in the Ministry team and gave us meaningful advice on how we could develop in the Ministry Team, including how we are able to keep believing in our faith no matter what others may say. We were then invited to have pizza for an early lunch.
After lunch, we performed skits as to how we could use our gifts throughout our lives such as in school, church and at home. The highlight of our day were the last two hours of the retreat. With Fr Ruben, Sr Chitra and Mr Crossley, we went through the various roles we could take on in the Ministry team, as Special Ministers, members of the choir, readers or altar servers. A bunch of questions later, we had a mass to end the day, celebrated by Fr Ruben. During the Mass Fr Ruben commissioned the readers, altar servers and choir members to take up their ministry with our community for next year.
Overall, it was a perfect day that allowed us to develop new friendships within our Ministry Team that will allow us to work collaboratively in the future. On behalf of the members of the Youth Ministry Team, we would like to thank Mr Crossley, Sr Chitra and especially Fr Ruben for accompanying and helping us on our ministry journey on our retreat and we look forward to serving the College in the near future.
