Mental Heath Week
This week the College integrated diverse activities in the life of the school to promote the importance of mental health and wellness.
We have a firm belief that for learning to happen we need to ensure the health and wellness of our students. This has been a key factor behind our adoption of the Berry Street Education Model which focuses on the social and emotional development of our students.
Current research indicates that one in seven Australians will experience depression in their lifetime and that one quarter of Australians will experience an anxiety condition. Mental health is therefore a very important issue in today’s society and so we are very keen to provide strong education and support mechanisms for all members of our Servite community.
In developing our vision for Community, the key aspect of wellness was always very much front and centre. We aim to build capacity in students to manage anxieties, build resilience and self-regulation. In providing students with these tools, and enveloping them in a caring and supportive community, we promote their capacity to thrive.
Our mental heath week initiatives ran all week, commencing with mindfulness exercises, lunchtime games and activities and Interpriory challenges. Other activities across the week included healthy snack promotions, no-tech breaks, picnic on the green and a highly professional and engaging lunchtime staff ‘flash mob’.
We are very grateful to all staff and students for their positive involvement in the week’s activities. We encourage everyone to always look out for one another and to seek assistance from our different support mechanism in time of need.
We are also very thankful to Ms Alice Potter for her terrific work, along with Ms Roseanne Madden, Mr Dean Robinett, Mrs Rose McAuliffe, Ms Lexie Ashwell-Jones and the many other staff involved for their efforts in ensuring the success of the week.
Priory Shirts
We are very pleased to announce that the new Priory shirts have arrived. The shirts look fantastic and celebrate staff and student connection to our Priories.
As has been previously mentioned, the updated shirts promote our Priories’ charisms and also take advantage of latest sporting uniform design technologies. The contemporary look and feel to the Priory shirts will enable students to be more comfortable in their uniforms and support their capacity to become involved in the many related activities on offer.
We appreciate that there is great excitement at the release of the Priory shirts and thank our students and parents for their patience. We also thank the many parents, students and staff who contributed to the final design.
In the interest of efficiency, and given our Year 7 students have yet to receive a Priory shirt, we will limit sales to Year 7 students only next week. Of course, if parents have children in other years, they are more than welcome to purchase additional shirts next week should they wish. We will then open the sale of the Priory shirts to all students from Week 10 onward. Uniform shop opening times are as follows:
- Monday 8.00am-1.30pm
- Tuesday 1.00pm-4.30pm
- Wednesday 8.00am-11.30am
A reminder to all families of the roll out timeline for our updated Sports and Priory uniform:
The College has provided a two-year transition period for students to adopt the new uniform.
Students may wear the new and old sports and priory uniform items in the following combinations:
• New sports polo with new sports shorts
• Old sports polo with old sports shorts
• New priory polo with new sports shorts
• Old priory polo with old sports shorts
• The new or old tracksuit jacket and/or pants can be worn with any of the above combinations. Parliament House Visit
A number of our Year 12 student leaders were excited this week to attend Parliament House to share lunch with Servite graduate and local member Mr David Michael MLA.
Students had the opportunity over lunch to share ideas around school life with Mr Michael, hear of the workings of Parliament and also enjoy a tour of Parliament House.
We are most grateful to Mr Michael for giving of his time so generously. The students certainly enjoyed the experience.
