On Sunday 8 March, Year 11 and 12 ATAR Drama students and Year 10 Drama students attended Black Swan Theatre’s stage adaptation of Tim Winton’s classic novel Cloud Street at His Majesty’s Theatre.
As part of their courses, students are studying various production roles like director, actor and set and costume designer. Studying how Winton’s much loved novel has been adapted for the stage has been a valuable insight into the process of designing a production.
This epic performance took place over five and a half hours (with a dinner break) and students were enthralled throughout, laughing and crying at the stories of Lamb and Pickles families and their lives on Cloud Street. Student responses ranged from “phenomenal” and “mind blowing” to “outstanding” and “thought provoking” and it’s safe to say it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
In the photo students are sitting in a boat in the foyer of His Majesty’s – the boat and the Swan River are an integral part of the story of Cloud Street.
