Celebrating Servite
This week we proudly displayed our flourishing College community to prospective families at our College Open Day.
Families had the opportunity to hear about our Servite story and then visit classrooms and tour the campus. It was a real thrill to see large numbers of families attend the College to learn more about our school. Families even had the opportunity for a sneak peak at our new Western courtyard which will be officially open to students next term.
Our student leaders did us, themselves and their families proud as they walked visitors around the campus and into classrooms to see learning happening first hand. Visiting families heard our students describe what they were learning, how they knew what they were learning, and what skills they were developing. Lessons were contemporary, dynamic and provided authentic examples of ‘The Servite Way’ of learning.
In presenting our Servite story to future parents and caregivers over the course of Open Day it was very affirming to reflect on the wonderful offerings that the College provides our students. Servite is a school full of personalised learning opportunities and provides a rich pastoral environment where the social, emotional and spiritual needs of students are met.
Families heard about how our core domains of Community, Learning and Ministry drive us toward our vision of enabling students to become all that they were created to be.
We outlined our Community vision where ‘Together we Thrive’. At Servite, we empower every student to be learning-ready and life-ready. We nurture a positive school culture where students learn and thrive by:
- Growing wellness
- Belonging and connecting within their learning environments
- Building meaningful relationships.
Our structure of Priories and Homerooms provides a strong support base for our students. In working towards our vision for Community, we focus on the development of key attributes. These positive human qualities are practiced to develop and sustain the best version of ourselves throughout our lives: Joy and Zest; Perseverance and Resilience; Self-regulation; Leadership and Teamwork.
In promoting our vision for Learning where we develop Researchers, Innovators and Entrepreneurs, families heard how we tailor an individual learning path for each of our students. Our school wide teaching and learning framework, The Servite Way, recognises that student needs are very different at Year 7 to what they are in Year 12 so we scope and sequence learning opportunities across the years accordingly.
In the middle years, our curriculum is designed for students to explore, enjoy and experiment as they develop a love of learning for life and learn about learning (metacognition) where students engage in interactive and collaborative approaches with others. In their senior years, each student engages in a personal learning plan that is designed just for them. They select a range of subjects that will allow them to achieve their best and set them up for future success in their chosen pathway.
In outlining our third key domain of Ministry during Open Day, families heard how we put ‘Faith into Action’. As a progressive Catholic school, we aspire to foster a rich connection with our students and challenge them individually to explore their faith, as they grow and develop into strong, confident young adults who have a deep awareness of who they are and their calling in life.
The faith life of our College is deeply planted in our personal discovery of Jesus, supported through our witness, teaching and practice. As a Servite school we are blessed with the support of our religious Friars and Sisters who provide exceptional pastoral care and a loving sacramental presence to our community.
We were thrilled to welcome many prospective families into our College this week. We are very proud of our flourishing school community and enjoyed the opportunity to share it with others.
