iServi News | 31 May 2019 | Term 2, Week 5
Congratulations to all members of our ACC Cross Country team. Servite’s performance in the ACC Cross Country carnival was excellent. It was a real testament to the mantra of trying your best, team effort and enjoying the experience across all age groups. It was a pleasure to be involved in a team that showed excellent spirit, encouragement and support for each other. The College had six runners finishing before the cut off in every race. Servite College finished 22nd overall, a magnificent performance with a total of 3394 points. A 700-point improvement on our 2018 result. Results are available here.
Whilst being an individual race, Cross Country is also a team event. Scoring at the carnival is on the basis of placings and a runner’s place is their score. For example, place 23 = 23 points. The lower the place, the better the score and the school with the lowest overall score wins. The scoring is also constructed such that for a school to qualify for an event they must have a minimum of three runners complete the course within the prescribed cut off time. To qualify for overall aggregate trophies, schools must qualify for all events in an age group. Every runner counts, as a poor performance in any age group can impact the overall school position.
Whilst in a team event it is always difficult to single out individual performance. However, the following students should be celebrated for their outstanding individual efforts:
- Alessio Macri 3rd overall in U14 Boys
- Ciaran Glackin 25th overall U14 Boys
- Manav Vohra 29th overall U14 Boys
- Adrian Versace 30th overall U15 Boys
- Emily Poga 9th overall U14 Girls
- Cleo Demonchaux 24th overall U14 Girls
The u14 boys finished 2nd overall in their category by just four places. Something to aim for next year boys! Other moments to be proud of include Ky Franceschini running with the Open Boys and being the first Servite runner home. Thank you to our senior students who turned up during their exam break to represent their College. Finally, a special mention to the Year 7 girls that ran up in age division. You were amazing.
I’d also like to thank our staff. Mr Hailes, for his dedication and commitment to the 200km club. The work of students involved with Mr Hailes from their early morning sessions on Wednesday and Friday during Term 1 and 2 shone through. Mr Butler, and Ms Potter for their help with organising runners and cheering the team home. Mr Lewis for helping get our senior students to the course and assisting with the organisation of the team. A final thanks to all students that have been involved in ACC Cross Country, whether it was at training, competing or supporting as a reserve we hope you have enjoyed the experience in 2019.
