Performing Arts Spotlight
Emi Nelthorpe
When I was young, some of my biggest role models would tell me about their side gigs DJing and playing instruments, and I just thought they were very cool. I think this and my love for entertaining people is where my passion for music began. I believe that performing arts is the most raw form of art and has the power to hit people the hardest with emotion.
I get involved in performing arts any opportunity I get! Right now I’ll play guitar or sing for any school events that come up and I’m currently enrolled at the West End Music Academy (WEMA) in a band where we play covers and occasionally originals.
My favourite type of performing arts is anything to do with music. I would love to stay in an industry that involves writing, recording, reviewing and performing music for others.
My advice to those wanting to get involved in the performing arts is that the worst you can do whilst performing is fail, so if you want to try something risky, try it anyways. Being a musician allows me to convey a message and share it with others in the way I know how.
