Performing Arts Spotlight
Jesse Lazaroo
I first got involved in the performing arts when I was eight after watching an Ed Sheehan concert on YouTube for the first time. My whole life Ed Sheeran had been my inspiration as his music style is the only one I loved to write, play and listen to.
I started music by learning to play the drums, of which I did a few solo performances and worked with others in a band. After mastering the drums, I started to learn to play the guitar. It was playing the guitar that I really started to take interest in singing. Today, I continue to play the drums and guitar, but focus more on my singing and piano playing.
The main thing I love about arts is the feeling you get when you’re performing. It’s one of the greatest senses of excitement to exist in my opinion. It’s a feeling you can’t get anywhere else as it’s a mix of being nervous, getting a huge rush and being proud. I like taking any chance I can to perform in front of others both on my own and in a group. Being able to perform at College events has allowed me to practice music regularly in a social setting with others, something I am grateful for.
In the future I wish to pursue performing arts as it’s the one of the few things in life which makes me feel like myself. I would recommend that students who have an interest in music but are nervous to put yourself out there to take that first step and reach out to teachers or other students involved in the arts to help you.
