Last Friday, Curtin UniReady students embarked on an excursion to the Bentley campus. They received an information session on the courses offered, heard about experiences from a number of first-year students and discovered the campus facilities through a guided tour. It made the transition from Servite College to Curtin University life ‘real’ and was a wonderful opportunity for students to immerse themselves into the experience. Students are in the process of completing their final unit for the course and are due to complete this early Term Four. Ms Roseanne Madden and I are very proud of this year’s UniReady cohort and wish them all the best for their upcoming final exams and future endeavours at Curtin University.
The excursion taught us the importance of networking and gave us an insight into the diverse environment we would soon be working in. We became aware that it would be important to explore new ideas and perspectives in order to thrive and widen our skill set. Being involved in new and exciting activities would enable us to build a professional network, and grow in our area of study. The sessions allowed us to immerse ourselves and imbedded the importance of self-regulation whilst understanding what it would be like to work besides people who could help us grow and further studies. The experience excited us all for what was to come next year, and I can say I am now more positive in continuing my education at Curtin. – Joshua Lombardo, SC3
The excursion was filled with passion, excitement and learning. The fieldtrip reminded us of how close we are to graduating and to soon become first-year Curtin University students. Throughout the day great insight was provided into the campus facilities, including the Student Guild, faculty buildings and the library which included the state-of-art ‘sleep pods’. We also received our student cards, which I felt was a reminder of how close we are to graduating from high school. I am very excited about starting my course next year at university. – Daniel Settineri, AN6
The excursion provided us an opportunity to explore and gain insight into what life as a Curtin student would be like. It was great to hear from a number of first-year student ambassadors about the flexibility and lifestyle of being a university student – such as studying online or having the ability to work part-time. The day’s sessions and activities were engaging and informed us of specific details about the structure of a number of courses and the professions we could pursue. It was very special to share this experience with all of the other Curtin UniReady students. – Lubona Lufumpa, AN4
