Engineers Without Borders Australia is a community organisation that creates social value through engineering. The objective of EWB Australia is not only to contribute to new and ongoing development projects, but also to expand the dimensions of experience for engineers and engineering students.
A team from EWB recently visited the College to deliver workshops for Year 8, 9 and 10 students. The goal was to show students that they can make the world a better place through utilising their engineering skills in humanitarian projects. The workshops focused on developing sustainable energy solutions and designing prosthetic limbs for people in developing countries.

Engineers Without Borders is an organisation full of engineers – whether they’re learning, apprenticing or fully qualified – that help the world become a better place through sharing their knowledge in important areas such as sustainable energy and the bio-medical field.
My experience in the Engineers Without Borders workshop was fun and informative. The team from EWB were very convincing about becoming an engineer too. In the incursion we learnt about wind energy and how we can generate electricity using wind turbines.
We completed a practical activity where we were put into groups and tasked with making blades for a wind turbine. They tracked our build cost and used a Multimeter electrical tool to measure how much energy our turbine blades generated. During the incursion, I also learnt about sustainable energy generating methods such as hydro, wind, solar and biofuel.
