iServi News | 7 February 2020 | Term 1, Week 1
I wish all families a very warm welcome back at the start of this new school year. We have a very clear vision for learning at Servite and that is ‘We develop researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs’. We believe that every person can learn and we nurture a life-long love of learning. All our learning is underpinned by our four key skillsets: critical thinking; creativity and innovation; communication and collaboration; and enterprise. These skills lead to employability and lifelong learning that our students will need to grow and thrive at school and in our constantly changing world.
At Servite we continually strive to ensure our learning environment is centred on the learner; has a rich and dynamic curriculum; is differentiated to meet the learning needs of individuals; embraces diversity; and ensures a pathway for success.
It was a joy to welcome our Year 7 students on Monday. These students will be immersed in this learning environment as they take part in a Formation Program for the first five weeks this term. The program is designed to help them discover what it means to be a Servite student. Students will take part in a collaborative project with Humanities and English where they will help to solve a mystery. During this project they will discover literacy skills as well as research and inquiry skills that they will need at Servite, all while trying to ‘crack a mysterious case’.
The Year 7s will also discover skills needed in Maths and Science as they take part in a Rocket Launch STEM project. They will go through a ‘5 D’ process (develop, discover, decide, design, determine) to develop, build and launch a water rocket and then reflect on the results.
It is also important that our Year 7 students know how to use their iPads effectively to best support their learning. As part of the Formation Program, students will build up their Digital Toolkits with the essential tools they will need to enhance their learning at Servite.
To all our Servite Learners and their families, I wish you well for your 2020 learning journey.
