On Wednesday March 1st, the College had a team of 4 Year 9 Students compete in The FUSE Cup Just Dance23 eSports National Competition. The Year 9 students involved were Baniwe Ojang (SC), Layla Eltouki (SA), Bianca Jalloh (SC), Matilda Kamah (AN).
It took place online via Microsoft Teams with schools participating from all over Australia, schools were split into groups then each group had 2 heats, with 4 Just Dance tracks in each heat selected at random.
Teams had to try and get the maximum score possible to proceed to the finals, teaching a valuable lesson in teamwork. The girls danced so well but unfortunately did not progress through to the finals this time, but as this was our first year in the competition it was great to be involved and see how it all works. There were also valuable lessons learnt about eSports and gaming and digital wellbeing and having balance, meaning to also remember to; have regular physical activity, socialise with family & friends in person to maintain social and emotional connections, get good sleep and minimise screen time prior to bed and to eat well & drink water. A couple girls gave a snippet about being involved on the day:
Baniwe: “Being involved in the Just Dance Competition was a great experience because I got to spend quality time with my friends and make great memories of being and representing Servite College”
Matilda: “The Just Dance Competition was a great experience because we were able to get active and physical, but also have fun and try new things as this was not something I had done before”.
