iServi News | 7 February 2020 | Term 1, Week 2
The Languages Learning Area would like to welcome back to the College our students from Years 7 – 12. After a long summer break, it has been pleasing to see the enthusiasm that our students have for both their learning and their school community in general. I wish to welcome Ms Alexa Pagnoni, who will be with us whilst Mrs Angelina Di Marco is on Long Service Leave. I also welcome the continued support from both Ms Melissa Ierace (lower school Italian) and Ms Kirsty Greenland (lower school Indonesian).
Our team recognises the dedication and persistent effort that was evident amongst the Languages student cohort in 2019. In particular we congratulate Alexandra Trimboli on her Subject Certificate of Excellence for Italian.
This certificate is awarded to the student with the second highest result in Western Australia. Alexandra worked diligently throughout her Italian studies at the College and it is a well-deserved accolade. I would also like to acknowledge the very pleasing results of each student in Year 12 Italian ATAR – each student performed slightly higher than was expected and were able to maximise the 10% Bonus score that is allocated to students who pursue their study of Languages to this high level. We wish each of our 2019 students every success with their future studies and endeavours.
As always, the Languages Learning Area is planning a range of activities which are designed to help our students progress in their studies. We are committed to help our young people become ‘all they are created to be’. Along with the more academic aspects of the school year, our team is in the process of planning the College’s biannual Italian Language and Cultural Tour. This Tour is offered to current students of Italian who are in Years 10 and 11. These young people will visit many of the well-known cities in Italy, plus experience first-hand a typical day in the life of an Italian teenager as they attend a secondary school. Whilst at school in Italy, our students will also participate in intensive language classes that will assist them with their studies on their return to Servite in 2021.
We look forward to the year ahead and more adventures!
Ms Gabriella Townsend
