iServi News | 1 July 2022 | Term 2, Week 10
As a conclusion to our novel study of Charlotte’s Web by EB White, Junior Literacy students from the Learning Diversity Centre visited Landsdale Farm.
The day began with animal feeding and learning the names of male, female and baby animals. Farmer Philli also taught us the collective nouns for the animal groups. We were pleased to see a ‘gaggle of geese,’ ‘flock of sheep’ and a’ ‘drove of pigs.’
After learning how to groom the animals with different brushes, we were lucky enough to be taken on a tractor cart ride. We used the tour of the farm to hunt for the characters of Charlotte’s Web such as Wilbur, the old sheep, the gander and Charlotte herself. We were quite relieved not to find Templeton the rat!
We finished off the day by petting the guinea pigs, chatting to the cheeky cockatoos, and counting the gnomes hidden within the beautiful gardens. We really did have a wonderful day and we are very much looking forward to our next excursion.
I am so proud of our students and of the dedicated staff we have within the Learning Diversity Centre. Opportunities like this would not exist or run so smoothly without them. We have had a fantastic term and I, personally, cannot wait to come back feeling refreshed and rejuvenated after the upcoming holiday break!
