People who are successful in life are not necessarily those with natural talent. Successful people develop habits that lead to success. To be successful in Maths is no different.
Students who are successful in mathematics:
- Are active participants – Maths is not a spectator sport. Practice makes perfect.
- Are receptive, they want to keep learning and see how things are connected.
- Pay attention to details and setting out.
- Don’t just memorise, take time to understand why the steps work.
- Build their vocabulary to understand the language of mathematics.
- Ask for help when needed.
- Have a positive attitude.
At Servite, Maths Clinics support our students to be successful in Maths.
This Term the Maths team is going to run our clinics a little bit differently. We will be providing two clinics each week.
What: STANDARD MATHS CLINIC
When: 3.30pm-4.30pm Tuesdays
Where: AL03
During our standard Maths Clinics, students are able to bring in their classwork and ask one of our wonderful Maths teachers and/or senior students for extra help with tasks that they do not understand.
What: SKILL FOCUS MATHS CLINIC
When: 3.30pm-4.30pm Tuesdays
Where: AL02
During Skill Focus Maths Clinics, our Maths teachers will cover key skills that are fundamental to being successful in mathematics.
For the next three weeks, our Skill Focus Maths Clinics will cover:
- Week 2 – Fractions with Ms Donnelly
- Week 3 – Percentages with Ms Cameron
- Week 4 – Decimals with Mrs Walker
Many students will have noticed they have been added to a Maths Clinic Team/OneNote. This is where you will be able to find the extra practice for your focus skills.
I strongly encourage all students to reflect on their progress in Maths and ask, ‘What skills do I need to improve?’. Future clinics will be promoted through Daily Notices.
