Exploring St Juliana’s Hospitality
Our Servite Saints help inspire our community to continue our growth and personal formation. As we celebrate the Feast of Saint Juliana Falconieri, we are reminded of the impact a young person can have on the life of others with small acts of love, kindness, and compassion. Through Saint Juliana, we see how a hospitable heart allowed her to grow in holiness as she welcomed others into her life and created space for them to grow and become all God created them to be.
Throughout the College’s Year of Hospitality, we are reminded of our calling to be more welcoming, accepting and to make room for others in our lives, without reluctance or fear. We are called us to take risks and open ourselves up to individuals, including those people we would not normally include in our lives. To grow in hospitality is to create a place where a stranger would feel comfortable and accepted. It is with hospitality that our school community continues to thrive.
Our Feast of Saint Juliana celebrations brought our community together this week to reflect on our own lives and our relationship with Jesus. Recognising the importance of National Refugee Week, our students performed a liturgical dance to raise awareness of the impact our national response to refugees has on the lives of refugees and migrants around the world. Our Student Ministry Team led our service, with our celebrant Fra Rubenson encouraging our community to always reach out to those in need. We may not see the impact our choices have on others, but the profound impact on their lives is still felt. Fra Rubenson’s final reflections reminded us that “when someone helps you while they are struggling too, that is not help… that is love”.
