Year 10 & 11 Italian Film Festival

Students from our Year 10 and 11 Italian classes had the opportunity to watch one of the films from the Italian Film Festival recently.

The film was called ‘Napoli – New York’ and it gave students a historical and cultural perspective of the Italian situation in the aftermath of World War 2 where many Italians fled the poverty and lack of opportunity in their beloved home country to find a better life in places like America, Canada, Argentina and Australia.

It was interesting that we were watching the movie in the Luna Cinema in Leederville which was an Italian cinema in the 1970s and was a cultural hub for the Italian community in Perth.

It was pleasing to hear such positive comments from students such as, “I was surprised I liked the movie so much Prof. It made me think and I really cared about the characters.” Our students were beautifully behaved!

Following the movie we went for a passeggiata to Pizzeria da Napoli and the students ordered in Italian a variety of Italian dishes. It brought back many memories of the Italian trip earlier in the year.

Prof Berardini and myself would like to commend our students for their maturity and polite and respectful behaviour. They are such wonderful ambassadors and role models.
