Project Compassion Launch

This week students from Servite College and St Kieran Catholic Primary School hosted Caritas Australia’s School’s Launch of Project Compassion 2023.

At this event, teachers and students from Catholic Schools around Western Australia joined us online for a webinar to launch Caritas’ Project Compassion.

The morning started with a warm welcome from Mrs Silvana Vicoli and Mr Daine Burnett, principals of Servite College and St Kieran Catholic Primary.

We then moved into a liturgy which was celebrated by Fr Vincent Glynn,  Episcopal Vicar for Education and Faith Formation and Fr Peter Porteous, Provincial Delegate for the Servite Friars, Australia, as well as Servite and St Kieran students.

Deacon Paul Reid, Community Engagement Animator for Caritas Australia WA/SA, addressed the live and online participants about the 2023 theme for Project Compassion which is ‘For all future generations’.

Webinar participants were privileged to be able to listen to Kirsty Robertson, CEO of Caritas Australia who shared her passion and conviction about the work that she does.

Servite and St Kieran students went on to facilitate two workshops that examined ‘Why we care’ and then ‘How we care’. The workshops enabled participants to think about how their school values align with Caritas and Gospel values of Jesus and then to design and Action Plan that they could implement in their schools to not only support Project Compassion during Lent, but to highlight putting Catholic Social Teaching into action.

After the Launch, St Kieran Year 6 students joined Servite College leaders for a pancake morning tea which was enjoyed by all.
