Alumni Spotlight: Alana Padmanabham (Class of 1998)

My best memories from school are without a doubt the friendships that I made there, the most significant of which are still going strong after all these years. I remember enjoying all the extracurricular activities I engaged in (none sporting as I am unfortunately very uncoordinated!) and the camps and excursions that we went on. I also want to acknowledge some amazing teachers that went above and beyond for their students and laid the foundation for us to go on to our further educational pursuits.

I am presently a Magistrate sitting in the Perth Children’s Court, I have been there for 4 and a half years now and I have had the privilege of working on a Therapeutic Court focussing on reducing levels of youth incarceration.

As I already confessed, I am not much a sport person but over the years I have been involved with fundraising for charities such as New Hope Australia and sitting on various Boards and Committees.

I have two very active young boys who take up a lot of my time, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. In my downtime I enjoy playing music, cooking and painting, and of course a glass of wine or two!

After graduating From Servite in 1998 I studied at UWA and obtained a Law/Arts Degree majoring in Women’s Studies and Political Science. I was admitted to practice as a Lawyer in 2005 and worked exclusively in Criminal Defence work from then. I opened my own practice in 2008 and practiced as a criminal defence barrister and solicitor until my appointment as a magistrate in the Children’s Court.
