Alumni Spotlight: Dom Scriva
In Year 12 I studied ATAR English, Maths Applications, Drama, Visual Arts & General Religion. My favourite subject was Drama (which will become obvious from the rest of my profile) – I loved it because of my love of theatre, but also because it felt like it was the first subject I studied that really played to my skills. I could see myself making a career out of it from very early on.
My favourite memories from school were the school productions that I got to be a part of. These productions were times to build community with students outside my year group – some of these friendships I still have to this day! It also was so great to do something which I was passionate about with people who were just as passionate.
I have recently returned home to Perth after living in Sydney for the past 5 years. I came back initially to do a Fringe show called ‘The Balloon Dog Bites’ which ended up winning the WA Theatre & Performance Award at the Fringe Awards. Now I am commencing my studies at WAAPA as I gained entry in the Bachelor of Arts (Acting) programme. This course has been a dream of mine for many years and I’m very excited at the opportunity to get to train at one of the best drama schools in the country.
In the years following graduation, I did some initial study in theatre and performance before heading off to Sydney to start my professional career as an actor and artist. In those years I’ve had the pleasure of landing some guest roles in TV Shows such as Totally, Completely, Fine (Stan.) and The Twelve, Season 2 (Binge/Foxtel). I began my career as a playwright, with my debut play ‘Heaven’ being shown at Brand X in Sydney – a leading arts organisation associated with the City of Sydney. I also am soon to have my first bit of writing published as part of Australian Theatre for Young People’s Intersection Festival in 2026.
I have also had a short stint working in experiential marketing as a Production Coordinator where I got to work on some major events for Netlifx’s Stranger Things, Wednesday and Samsung’s VIVID Installation. The years since graduating from Servite have been full of great challenges and incredible tests of determination. I’m so excited that now, after a few years of professional practice, I can come back home to Perth and study again, developing my craft further.
If I was to pass on any advice to the students graduating from Year 12 this year, it would be to take a deep breath, and follow what inspires you. You don’t need to know exactly what you want to do with your whole life right now. There is so much time to study, work, travel and explore what sets your heart on fire.
