Laudato Si’ Week
Last week, Servite College celebrated Laudato Si’ Week 2026 with the theme From Hope to Action, encouraging students to turn small acts of sustainability into meaningful change for our common home.
Throughout the week, students participated in our “100 Actions for Our Common Home” challenge, inspired by both Laudato Si’ and the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough.
Across the College, students committed to positive environmental actions including bringing waste-free lunches, refilling water bottles, walking or riding to school, reducing food waste, planting native species and picking up litter.
- Students also took part in a range of activities and learning experiences:
- Native seedling planting and propagation workshops
- Beeswax wrap making workshops for packaging Waste-Free lunches
- Reusable water bottle homeroom challenge
- Students vs Teachers sustainability quiz
- Video interviews sharing what “our common home” means to students and how they have turned hope into action
Learning across classrooms connected sustainability and stewardship to curriculum areas:
• Year 7 RE explored Laudato Si’ Goals and actions for their communities
• Year 8 Science investigated plant reproduction and germinated seedlings
• Year 9 English examined the impacts of war on people and the natural world
• Year 10 Geography linked sustainability to the Sustainable Development Goals
• Year 11/12 Religion students explored Pope Francis’ encyclical and watched The Letter
• Year 11 Maths Essentials analysed sustainability and water use data
Thank you to all staff and students who embraced the spirit of Laudato Si’ Week and helped make a positive difference through everyday actions. Together, small actions create big change.
