RAC bstreetsmart: Road Safety in Focus

Topic Learning
Date April 8, 2026

In the final week of Term 1, all Year 10 students took part in the RAC bstreetsmart event.

This excursion is an important part of the College’s ongoing commitment to driver safety and education, and it proved to be a highly impactful experience for everyone involved.

The day offered students a powerful insight into the realities of being on the road. Through confronting scenarios, they gained a deeper understanding of the serious consequences of unsafe driving and the importance of making responsible decisions both as drivers and passengers.

RAC bstreetsmart features a crash scene re-enactment attended by the emergency services, just as it would occur at a real crash site. The students also have the opportunity to listen to speakers who have been directly impacted by road trauma and talk with emergency services personnel.

A standout moment was the opportunity to engage with emergency services personnel—the real heroes within our community. Students gained valuable insight into the vital role these individuals play in responding to road incidents and supporting those affected.

Following the event, students reflected on their experiences in discussions with staff, sharing a renewed awareness of the importance of staying focused and alert while driving. They returned with a stronger sense of responsibility and a commitment to making safer choices on the road, helping to contribute to a future where road safety remains a priority.
