Year 12 student Alessio Macri (AN4) has achieved amazing success over the weekend after competing in the 2023 Rottnest Channel Swim.
Alessio was asked a week prior to fill in for Andy Donaldson, 31 year old former 2021 Solo Rottnest winner, who was unable to compete due to being overseas.
Being asked to compete was an honour in itself and at 17 years, Alessio joined the team “Swimtek Big Orse” with teammates consisting of some of Australia’s swimming elite:
- Jake Smith – Surf & Ocean International Swimmer and Medalist
- Travis Nederpelt – 2004 & 2008 Olympic Swimmer
- Paul Laver – Former Triathlete
- Alessio Macri – National Swimmer/Olympic Trials Qualifier
The Rottnest Team record to break was from 2018: 03:36:36. The boys managed to break the record with a time of 03:36:33! This was an amazing result and put them in second place with Olympic Team Cody Simpson, Mack Horton, Bowen Gough and Joshua Edwards-Smith taking first place.
Congratulations Alessio on your exceptional results and success! We are all so proud of you.
