Student Success: Deborah Mwenelokole
Congratulations to Deborah (Year 12 Visual Art – General) who received the Highly Commendable runner-up to the Fra Angelico Award for her depiction of Mary – a mixed media piece titled ‘Mbeto Ya Bikirs Maria’ (Virgin Mary).
Deborah drew inspiration from Congolese religious practices and have infused this representation of the Virgin Mary with symbolism and visual elements that resonate with the African community.
Deborah received the Award at the Angelico Art Exhibition – an exhibition which showcases both Primary and Secondary Art pieces from catholic schools across the state. The exhibition is held at the Forrest Center on St.Georges Terrace and will run until the 25th August. There will be a special viewing opportunity on Saturday 19th August.
