Message from the Principal

As we approach the Easter break, I would like to take the opportunity to sincerely thank our Servite community for the incredibly warm and generous welcome I have received since commencing as Principal. It has been both humbling and uplifting to experience firsthand the spirit of this wonderful College, one grounded in faith, community and a genuine care for one another.

I have been particularly struck by the dedication and commitment of our staff, who give so generously of themselves each day in service of our students. Their professionalism, collegiality and care are what make Servite such a special place.

There is also a real sense of excitement across the College. The commencement of Stage 2 building works, including our new Double Gymnasium and Montessori Technologies and Arts Centre, signals an important step forward in our ongoing growth. Combined with our already outstanding facilities, these developments will further enhance the learning opportunities available to our students.

What has stood out most, however, is the pride our students have in being part of Servite. You see it in the way they carry themselves, in their relationships and in the strong sense of belonging within our Priories and the College. On several occasions, students have approached me to ask what I think of Servite College. There is a quiet hope in their question, that I share the same pride they feel. I am pleased to say that I already do.

There is much to be excited about as we look ahead. Servite is a College with great momentum, strong foundations and enormous potential. I feel very privileged to be part of this next chapter as we enact our newly developed Strategic Plan over the next few years.

As we now enter the Easter season, I encourage all members of our community to take time to pause and reflect on its deeper meaning. Today, Fr Albert and our Year 11 Student Leaders led the school in a meaningful liturgy on the Sorrows of Mary. It reminded us that Easter calls us to renewal, to be people of courage, compassion and service. It challenges us not simply to celebrate the story, but to live it: to bring hope, to act with justice and to care for one another in both small and significant ways.

May this Easter be a time of rest, renewal and reflection for you and your families.

Student Presentation and Uniform Expectations

As we come to the end of Term 1, I would like to thank families for your ongoing support of our College. One of the great strengths of Servite is the pride our students take in belonging to this community. That pride is most visible in the way they present themselves each day.

In speaking with students at our recent assembly, I took the opportunity to reaffirm the importance of personal presentation and adherence to our College grooming and uniform expectations. These standards are not about compliance for its own sake, but about fostering a sense of dignity, respect and belonging, for self, for others and for our College.

Over the course of the term, we have noticed a gradual shift in some aspects of student presentation that we now need to address together. In particular, this includes:

• boys being clean shaven
• haircuts aligning with College expectations (for example, avoiding extremes in style such as ‘mullets’)
• no make-up being worn to school
• ensuring shorts are of an appropriate size and fit
• skirt length meeting College guidelines

As we prepare for the commencement of Term 2, I ask for your support in ensuring that your child returns meeting these expectations. Taking the time over the holiday period to address these areas will assist in setting a strong and positive tone for the term ahead.

From the beginning of Term 2, staff will be working closely with students to ensure consistency in these standards. Where required, students will be supported to make the necessary adjustments.

We know that when students present well, they feel a stronger sense of pride and connection to their College. Thank you, as always, for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home.

Holiday Office Hours
________________________

Please note that the College will be closed from Friday 03 April March until Tuesday 07 April. We will reopen from Wednesday 08 April over the term break.

Students are to return to school on Tuesday, 21 April. Our staff will be taking part in a ministry professional development day on Monday, 20 April.

Uniform Shop Holidays Hours

The Uniform Shop will be open on the following days:

• Wednesday, 8 April: 9.00am – 12.00pm
• Thursday, 9 April: 9.00am – 12.00pm

The uniform shop will then commence regular hours from Tuesday, 21 April:

• Tuesday: 8.00am – 4.00pm
• Wednesday: 8.00am – 1.30pm
• Thursday: 12.30pm – 4.00pm

2027 Key Dates

We are pleased to share the 2027 term dates with our college community:

• Wednesday 27 January – Years 7, 11 and 12 commence
• Friday, 29 January – Whole school returns
• Friday, 9 April – Last day of Term 1

Term 2

• Tuesday, 27 April – First day of Term 2
• Friday, 25 June – Last day of Term 2

• Tuesday, 20 July – First day of Term 3
• Friday, 24 September – Last day of Term 3

Term Two Staffing
________________________

We extend our best wishes to the following staff as they commence Long Service Leave in Term 2: Mr Caolan Dodgson and Ms Maria McGovern. We hope they enjoy a well-earned break and safe travels.

We also wish Ms Loretta Dayman every success as she takes leave this term to focus on her doctoral studies.

We look forward to welcoming Ms Shayley Mitchell and Ms Stephanie Liaros to the College community.

Congratulations to Ms Teresa Thomas, who will be stepping into the role of Head of Community Senario for Term 2, and to Mr Riley Burrows, who will serve as Head of Learning Area – Stage and Music for the term.

Building Update
________________________

We are excited to report that construction of Stage 2 of The Servite College Masterplan commenced in early February and is progressing on schedule within the expected timeframes. Stage 2 is the construction of our new state of art community double Gym and the new Montorsoli Technologies Centre and is due to be operational by mid 2027.

Over the past month we have seen the demolition of existing structures and the commencement of groundworks including the sinking of soak wells and broader plumbing requirements. The foundation slabs are expected to be installed over the coming weeks.

Looking ahead, there is even more to be excited about. Construction has commenced on our new Double Gymnasium and the Montessori Technologies and Arts Centre, further enhancing our already outstanding facilities and learning opportunities for students.

Our newly launched Strategic Plan will continue to guide this growth, ensuring Servite College remains a school of choice—one that nurtures each student and prepares them to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Enrolments Update

We have now completed Round 1 enrolment interviews for Year 7, 2028, and have experienced an unprecedented level of interest in the College. This strong demand reflects the confidence families have in the education and community we offer at Servite.

A reminder to current families that your application for sibling enrolments should have been submitted. Please contact the College urgently if you have not yet submitted your sibling enrolment in for Year 7, 2028.

Punctuality to homeroom and class is a key focus for the College, as it sets the tone for a positive and productive day of learning. Arriving on time ensures students are organised, settled, and ready to engage from the very beginning of each lesson. Homeroom provides valuable opportunities for important daily notices, building strong relationships with peers and staff, and fostering a sense of belonging within the school community. Students who are present and punctual are better positioned to participate in learning, develop positive routines, and contribute to a respectful and connected environment.

Student Device Review
________________________

Technology continues to play an important and evolving role in education. As the ways students use digital devices continue to change, we believe this is an opportune time for the College to review how student laptops are deployed and used to ensure they support the best possible learning outcomes.

Laptops provide valuable opportunities for students to access resources, collaborate, and develop important digital skills. However, it is equally important that their use is purposeful, balanced, and aligned with effective teaching practices. Our aim is to promote focused learning both on campus and at home.

As part of this review, potential changes may include internet filtering that applies regardless of location, restrictions on the applications that can be used on laptops, and greater control over which apps students are able to install on their devices.

We value the input of our school community and invite students, parents and caregivers to share their feedback as we consider these potential updates to student device use.
