OUTDOOR EDUCATION | Year 11 General Canoeing Expedition

The Year 11 General Outdoor Education Cohort completed their final practical assessment for the year – a 4 day, 3 night canoeing Expedition along the beautiful Gurbillup Buerle (Noongar name for The Blackwood River).

The river provided the perfect natural classroom where students could see and respect its – at times – challenging elements, connect with Country and appreciate its beauty.

Throughout the expedition, students demonstrated the canoeing skills and outdoor knowledge they have developed over the year. They Navigated through tight river bends and small rapids, worked effectively as a team, to manage equipment on & off slippery riverbanks and demonstrated outstanding camp craft skills – starting fires from a flint start and cooking 3 ingredient scones on the fire just to name a couple!

The Expedition offered an opportunity for students to apply their risk management, leadership, and environmental awareness in a real – world setting. An experience that few have the privilege to be apart of.

The Outdoor Education Department is extremely proud of each student in this cohort and look forward to what 2026 brings to those that are welcoming the challenge of the Year 12 Program!
