Year 9’s Taste Italian Tradition

UNESCO has added the rituals surrounding Italian food preparation and consumption to its list of the world’s traditional practices and expressions.

The listing means Italian cooking is now part of the world’s “intangible” cultural heritage.

Some of those traditions recognised were the Sunday family lunch, the tradition of grandmothers teaching grandchildren and the act of coming together to share a meal.

It was with these traditions in mind that our Year 9 Italian class ventured to The Ischia on Claisebrook Italian restaurant to experience the wonders of Italian cooking including gnocchi alla Gorgonzola, spaghetti alla carbonara, le lasagne, pizza margherita, pizza diavola, capricciosa and of course a delicious gelato to finish our meal.

Our host Alejandra and her amazing staff made us feel welcome and it was a delight to see students trying dishes they hadn’t tasted before.

Our students were wonderful ambassadors for our school and one of the highlights was listening to them sing the College anthem together on the bus ride home.
