Year 10 Italian Explore Culture, Cuisine, and Community

The Year 10 Italian students travelled to Fremantle to visit the From Nonna With Love exhibition at the WA Maritime Museum. The exhibition celebrates the stories of Italian migrant women who helped shape Western Australia’s cultural identity. Students chose a Nonna to focus on and answered questions about her life. They also had the opportunity to sit in Nonna’s kitchen and experience the belief that, “‘Food is love’, and there’s no better way of sharing heritage than spending kitchen time with your loved ones. Students could also take home some of the Nonna’s favourite recipes which they will try to prepare and cook during their holidays. Students also explored the Welcome Walls and read about the different migrants that migrated to Western Australia. Some of the students even found their relatives’ details on the Welcome Walls. After our Fremantle visit we travelled to Mount Hawthorn for a delicious lunch at Mister Focaccia. Mamma mia! What a delicious treat baked fresh every day! We all enjoyed our favourite focaccia and received a free cannolo! Grazie mille!

Dopo pranzo (after lunch) we took a walking tour around the iconic Re Store where our gracious hosts gave invited us to taste some of their delicious prosciutto. This year their family celebrates 90 years of providing delicious Italian food to our community with yet another generation continuing their amazing legacy.

It was a wonderful gita scolastica and our students were wonderful ambassadors for our school.
