Pedal Prix WA involves the development and trial of Human Powered Vehicles (HPV’s). This year many schools and colleges got together to compete in the Epiroc Pedal Prix WA six hour race in Bunbury.
On 28 August, myself and my fellow students travelled to Bunbury to compete. Before the race on Sunday, we had time to explore the town, and visit the popular lighthouse, and Taffy’s Candy Shop. On the race day, we had a girls team, and a boys, so we could race in different categories. In the girls team, we ended up coming second, with a total of 273 laps during the six hour long competition.
I absolutely loved my experience and I highly recommend it for any students who are interested in the sport. There aren’t any completions left this year, but a few are coming up for next year. Don’t hesitate to ask Mr Williams if you have any questions, or are interested.

On the weekend of 28-29 August, the Servite Pedal Prix team competed in the Western Australia Human Powered Vehicle Association event in Bunbury where we raced for six hours non-stop, taking turns and doing about 45km/h against 300 other teams.
We left school at 9.00am on Saturday, with Mr Williams driving the bus, Ms Hollis entertaining us on the bus and Ms Poga driving the ute with a trailer full of equipment. We all had a great time on the bus and made new friends which made it even more fun. When we arrived at Bunbury, we were all stoked to stay here for a night. We had lunch and then we visited the lookout and took a couple of photos. After that, we walked around the coast adventuring and spending a very fun time together as a team. We also checked out the race course to practice for tomorrow. We stayed at Bunbury Catholic College for the night and we were all super excited and somewhat nervous for tomorrow’s big race.
On race day, we all woke up bright and early to get ready for the race. The girls braided our hair. Before the race started, we all took a walk around the track and talked together as a team about tactics and advice. We had two teams competing – one girls team and one boys team. At the end of the day the girls came a close second, with just one lap behind from first and the boys came a strong fifth out of 30 competitors in their division. After the race day we were all tired and sore but super happy with the results and we enjoyed the ride back.
