The Stage Show
Anika Desai (SM2) and Claudia Catena (SM5) were recently interviewed for ‘The Stage Show’, an ABC Radio National program that brings listeners ‘in-depth conversations with the world’s top directors, performers and writers for the stage’. Joining host Michael Cathcart and guests including writer Katherine Tonkin, and performer Humphrey Bower, the girls discussed Anton Chekhov’s play, The Cherry Orchard, which they are studying in their Year 12 ATAR Drama classes.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to speak with Michael Cathcart, Katherine Tonkin, and Humphrey Bower on The Stage Show podcast. Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’ is a deep and layered play, and getting to explore this text with industry professionals in an open table discussion was an enriching experience and greatly assisted both Anika and myself in understanding the themes, issues and literary devices explored in the play.
Claudia Catena (SM5)
The interview for The Stage Show was an enriching experience in developing our understanding of Anton Chekhov’s ‘The Cherry Orchard’. We learnt about the fascinating process of adapting a Russia based play to 1980s Australia. The amount of diligence in the thought processes behind adapting this play was an interesting talking point, as it proved that the small details are sometimes the most effective elements. As Year 12 Drama ATAR students, Claudia and I were fortunate to have access to key ideas and topics that will prove valuable in our study of this play.
