iServi News | 22 November 2019 | Term 4, Week 6
Congratulations to our Year 12 students on completing their ATAR exams and our Year 11 students who completed their semester two exams this week. They are all to be commended on the enormous effort and determination that they put into their studies.
Our Year 11 students will be finalising the year after their feedback day. This day provides students with the opportunity to reflect on their results, the areas that require improvement and be guided in choosing their pathway for Year 12. I would like to thank all our teachers that have worked very hard in preparing students for their revision and exams.
I wish our Year 10 students all the very best as they commence their exams next week. The exams will provide them with the opportunity to communicate all that they have learnt during the semester and year.
Berry Street
This week at Servite we saw Brendan Baily from “Berry Street” present to over 50 participants from various schools around Western Australia.
The Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) is a whole-school approach which enables all staff members to share strategies to meet the complex wellbeing and academic needs of students through a consistent whole-school approach.
The Berry Street Education Model is a progressive training course. It is a positive education framework that supports teachers meet the specific needs of students. It enables teachers to both increase engagement with students and improve all students’ self-regulation, growth and academic achievement.
The BSEM aims to achieve the following short-term outcomes for students:
- Improved academic growth and social/emotional wellbeing
- Greater ability to maintain positive and healthy friendships/relationships
- Increased school attendance
- Decreased incident reports and suspensions
- Increased teacher knowledge and capacity to work with them.
The BSEM also aims to achieve the following long-term outcomes for these students:
- Improved self-esteem and capacity for healthy relationships
- Less anti-social behaviours for future success
- Improved Year 12 completion and participation in post-school training, education and employment.
Students in the BSEM pilot program achieved more than two years academic growth in one year following implementation of the model (based on AusVELs data, evaluated by the University of Melbourne).

Finally, please note that Stage 1 construction of the College Master Plan commenced on Monday 18 November. During construction time please be aware that detours will be in place.
Specifically, there will be no access to Servite College or St Kieran Primary School via the entry located between the two schools on Morgans St. This entry will be blocked off until end of Term 1, 2020.
Entry to Student Reception and College Reception is via the Cape Street entrance.
We ask that extra care and patience be shown during this time. Regular updates will be provided to our extended Servite community throughout the construction process.
