Orientation Day – 2020 Year 7
Moving from primary to secondary school is a huge transition. It can be a time full of fun, excitement and new experiences, but it can also be challenging or worrying for many children.
Primary school students will often express that they have mixed feelings about starting secondary school. They might be excited about new friends, subjects and teachers. They may also be nervous about learning new routines, making new friends, wearing a new uniform or even worried about handling the workload.
To help our incoming Year 7 students Servite delivers an orientation program which supports our new incoming Year 7 students in their transition into high school. This week more than 185 eager and enthusiastic students joined our College community on Orientation Day to begin their educational journey at Servite.
The new students interacted very well with teachers, staff and other students. Students were allocated their Priory and the very healthy, positive competition began! It was delightful to see the confidence and joy grow as the students participated in the various activities and gain a sense of belonging as well as making new friends.
Our Heads of Community along with our teachers and Year 10 students provided an exciting program that gave everyone the opportunity to gain a better understanding our College. A special thank you to Mr Wayne Wilkes for organising such an important event.
Parent Information Evening – 2020 Year 7
Orientation Day is followed up with a parent information evening and it was delightful to meet our new families and be re-acquainted with our existing parents.
Just like our new students, parents can also be anxious about their child commencing high school. This event provided parents with an overview of some important information that will support their family through the transition process.
During the evening, parents were introduced to three wonderful Year 7 students, Maddison Rains (SM4), Sophie Gilchrist (SM2) and Adam Velious (SA3). These students spoke about their experiences at the start of the year, recalling that they were nervous at the start but reassured parents that they quickly felt safe, happy and welcomed at the College.
Parents and Friends
The College and Parents and Friends Executive warmly invite you to come along to our P&F Farewell and Strategic Planning Forum for 2019 from 6.30pm Wednesday, 27th November in the Alexis Research Centre.
Could I please remind parents that the current Parents and Friends Executive has called for nominations to join the P&F for next year. Please email any queries to pandf@servite.wa.edu.au
Week 5
In a very busy week for our Year 7 students, the cohort participated generously in the Christian Service Learning program and Retreat. On Thursday night, the Year 7 Social saw many students enjoy the company of their peers and dance right through to the end of the evening. Photos can be found here
Our Year 10 students have been building their interview skills this week during mock employment interviews. The mock interview process supports students to improve their communication skills, and reduce stress before an actual job interview. Students developed: presentation skills; improvisation; active listening; effective communication; confidence and assertiveness.
Our Year 10 students conducted themselves superbly and received valuable feedback. A big thank you goes out to the parents, past students and industry delegates that have assisted us through this process. Also thank you to the Pathways Team for the organisation of such a mammoth task.
Master Plan
Finally, please note that Stage 1 construction of the College Master Plan will be commencing on Monday 18 November. During construction time please be aware that detours will be in place. Specifically, there will be no access to Servite College or St Kieran Primary School via the entry located between the two schools on Morgans St. This entry will be blocked off until end of Term 1, 2020. We ask that extra care and patience be shown during this time. Regular updates will be provided to our extended Servite community throughout the construction process.
