ACC Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all of our students involved in the Associated and Catholic Colleges (ACC) Athletics Carnival which was held at HBF Arena on Monday this week. Students gave of their best on the day with a strong training regime paying dividends in the form of some very competitive performances from a number of our athletes.
I would like to acknowledge the courage of all of our athletes to firstly involve themselves in the team and secondly to compete so strongly on the day against the many high-quality athletes from other schools at this Division level. Having the capacity to step out onto the track and field to represent our College shows great spirit and fortitude in what can be a challenging environment. Having the ability to successfully manage these types of circumstances stands our students in very good stead for the any future challenges that they may face.
Being part of a team and competing at this level also builds resilience and perseverance – two key attributes which are transferable to all elements of life, including of course to
leaning within the classroom. To compete under challenging circumstances out on the track, or to fill in at short notice for an injured athlete, builds capacity in our students and sets them up for future success.
Events like the ACC Athletics Carnival provides a platform for our students to display their God given talents. We are all gifted with different skills, so it is important that we continue to explore pathways for students to grow these skills and to celebrate their achievements.
Thank you to our very dedicated staff coaches for the wonderful support of our students in the lead up to and during the event. Thank you also to parents for their support in encouraging their children to attend Carnival and also the training sessions prior to the event. Having great support from home allows us to continue to build important facets of College life such as our sports program.
Child Safe School
In our continued commitment to ensuring that our school provides a Child Safe environment for all of our students, staff have recently undergone training in Mandatory Reporting processes. This training is a key aspect of the CEWA Child Safe Framework and supports the ongoing care and support of our students.
This Mandatory Reporting process complements the integration of the Keeping Safe Child Safe Curriculum which we have embedded into learning courses and Pastoral programmes across the school.
Of course, our recent implementation of the Berry Street Education Model is another core initiative designed to support the safety and wellness of our students. We are exciting at the positive impact that this programme is having on developing the social and emotional capacity of our students.
We are also grateful to our Year 12 student leaders who spent time this week on the continued development of the Student Code of Conduct. Next, we will invite our incoming 2020 Year 12 student leaders to provide their input. To finalise the process, we will integrate feedback opportunities into our Pastoral Care Program and then release the completed student led document to the community. As I have mentioned often in the past, we have a great interest in hearing the voice of the student. This process has allowed our students to shape a strategy to support their own ongoing growth and wellness.
Can I remind all parents and students of our Servite Concern initiative which allows any student to anonymously communicate any worries that they have directly to a key member of staff. Servite Concern is available on the Student Portal, also here. Of course, all parents and students are also encouraged to directly access the support structures at the school which include the Homeroom Teacher, Head of Community, Deputy Principal, Vice Principal and the Principal should they ever have any concerns. As a school with Community as a core charism, we prioritise the health and wellbeing of everyone at our school.
Australian Association of Religious Education Awards
We would like to congratulate Director of Ministry Mr Ryan Wiles on being announced recipient of an Australian Association of Religious Education Award for his continued excellent work around the development of our outstanding and Catholic Education WA LEAD Award winning initiative 24/7 SERVE.
Presented at the Australian Association of Religious Education Award ceremony last night, Mr Wiles was recognised for his commitment and dedication in ensuring the success of this exciting initiative which provides genuine faith and spiritual leadership development opportunities for our students.
Uniform Shop
Servite College strives to keep Uniform prices as low as possible and any price increases are carefully considered. With increased prices from our suppliers and the introduction of new Health and Physical Education and Priory uniform items, a review of our pricing has resulted in some price increases. We assure all parents that any price increases have been kept to the minimum.
