iServi News | 15 October 2021 | Term 4, Week 1
Welcome back to the start of what promises to be another exciting term at the College, filled with many and varied learning opportunities for students. I hope that our families had the opportunity to spend some quality time together over the break, with students returning refreshed and ready to learn.
Ready to Learn
As a College, we provide multiple learning opportunities and pathways for students. Our vision is to personalise learning for our students and hence we adopt a flexible educational approach to support their individualised needs. We understand the many and varied gifts and talents of our students and strive to engage them in learning to allow them to develop as whole persons with the capacity to positively shape the world around them
We encourage students to take full advantage of the learning on offer at the College and to make education a priority. By this time of the year, students have developed a good understanding of how they are progressing academically and an appreciation of where to go to for help. The have developed quality positive relationships with staff and should feel confident seeking out support to stretch their learning.
We want our students to apply their best efforts always to their learning and to take personal ownership and responsibility for the way that they approach their studies. In aiming to develop students with the capacity to self-regulate and a strong sense of resilience and perseverance, we hope to instil in them the capacity and the motivation to manage their own learning.
As always, we encourage our parents and caregivers to fully engage in the educational lives of their children. There is considerable modern research that suggests this type of engagement has a very positive impact on academic performance.
Year 12 Students
At this time of year, our thoughts continue to be very much with our Year 12 students as they progress toward their graduation from the College next week. Our Year 12 students have made a very positive impact on the life of the school and have left their indelible mark on our Servite story. This is a bittersweet time for all at the College as we look to celebrate our students graduating whilst understanding that they will no longer be regular fixtures within our school community.
We acknowledge the outstanding way that students have approached their exams over the past few weeks. They have shown rigour and dedication in ensuring their preparedness for the exams and we certainly wish them for their upcoming ATAR exams commencing November.
We also acknowledge the dedication of students completing other educational pathways and congratulate them for their efforts in completing their courses.
We look forward to the events of next week as we celebrate the positive impact that our Year 12 students have had on Servite and formally wish them well for the future.
Year 9 Students
This week families of our Year 9 students would have received communication around the exciting plans for the integration of our southwest WA Nannup site into the learning program for students.
As families are aware, the College purchased the Nannup Campus in 2020 and has redeveloped the location to enable onsite learning which aligns with our learning vision of developing researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
During Term 4, Year 9 students will have the exciting opportunity to complete a hands-on, project-based learning experience at the regional campus, where they will engage and collaborate with the Nannup council and local businesses.
We are very excited about the positive impact that our Nannup campus will have on our capacity to ensure that we provide innovative, contemporary and authentic learning opportunities to help students develop the skills that will best set them up for future success in a very dynamic world.
