Graduating Class of 2021
It has been an emotional and exciting week at the College as we farewelled our Graduating Class of 2021.
A range of different celebration activities were spread across the week, including a group outing on Monday; Year level Mass, whole school and Priory assemblies on Thursday; and a breakfast and the formal Graduation Ceremony on Friday.
I had the opportunity over the course of the week to speak of the important impact that the graduands have had on our community over the past six years at the College.
Our Year 12 students have captured every moment of their time at Servite to grow into an amazing group of young adults with the capacity to make a real difference to the world around them.
Our graduating class of 2021 has been a very inclusive and caring group of students who have looked outward to the needs of others. They have developed rich and lasting friendships and have shown a great connection and dedication to Servite.
Led by Head Girl Anika Desai and Head Boy Jonathan Marchesi and wonderfully supported by the senior student leaders, our Year 12 students have demonstrated great leadership in continuing our Servite story. They have been genuinely committed to the values of our school and have lived these out through their interaction with others.
Our Year 12 students have been a very proactive group of students who have connected with their school. They have worked hard to take full advantage of the growth opportunities available at Servite and have been positive role models to students across the year levels.
Our students have used their time wisely and productively at Servite to develop a very special and lasting bond with each other, to grow as whole persons and to give back to the College that they arrived at six short years ago.
We are grateful to our Year 12 students for immersing themselves in the life of the College and for taking up the leadership challenge as senior students of the College. They have led us in a very positive and joyous way and have celebrated life with great energy. They have looked out for one another along the way and provided great support and care for each other.
We have great confidence that our graduands will flourish in the world beyond Servite. We strongly believe that being formed in the Servite spirit will stand them in very good stead for the next phase of their journey.
I encourage our graduands, when looking to the future, to be reminded of the words of Mother Teresa when she says “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”
I hope they are inspired by Mother Teresa’s comments when she says that “we are all pencils in the hand of God”. Our graduands can write the future, they can create it, they have the potential. Our graduands can make a difference in the world because they have been formed through the love of their families and with the rich charisms of the Servites.
We encourage our graduands to continue to enjoy each minute of their life and to celebrate who they are and the God-given talents they have been gifted. We want them to appreciate how precious the time is they have to spend, whether it’s at work, study, with family or friends. Every minute should be enjoyed and savoured. We hope our graduands look with great excitement to the future and heed Pope John Paul II’s advice when he says:
“Let us remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm, and look forward to the future with confidence.”
We wish our Graduating Class of 2021 all of the very best for the future. We thank them for their contribution in continuing our Servite story. They have made an indelible mark on our community that is greatly valued. The students now belong to an auspicious alumni and know that they will always remain connected to our community for, as we say: “Once a Servite, Always a Servite”.
