Student Leadership
We want our students to enter society with a strong sense of their place in our global economy and equipped with the skills to grow both their own capacity and the capacity of others.
Our philosophy is that we are all learners and all leaders and therefore all students at Servite are given the opportunity to lead in a variety of ways, whether it is within the classroom, the year level or the whole school community.
We develop Servant Leaders who understand that their role as a leader is to put the needs of others before their own. Our student leaders, whether in a formal position or not, nurture abilities in themselves and others to make an ethical and socially just impact on our campus and in the wider community.
There is considerable research on the importance of developing leadership in students
Shane Lavery and Greg Hine from Notre Dame University believe that “adolescents possess enormous leadership potential. They are tomorrow’s leaders in the workplace, the family, the community, and in government.”
They say that “developing the leadership potential of young people is vital. Society will always require leaders who are ethical, collaborative, transformative, and have a strong sense of service. Secondary schools are in a unique position to influence the leadership development of adolescents. Such influence comes in the shape of offering formal and informal opportunities for leadership, specific training in leadership, and adult mentors to accompany adolescents on their leadership journeys. Catholic secondary schools, moreover, can draw upon a rich tradition of Gospel values exemplified in the person of Jesus to inform their efforts to develop student leadership”.
At Servite we therefore place strong emphasis on student leadership as we want all within our community to fulfill their potential and positively shape the people and environment around them.
Student Leaders at the College complete leadership development training and participate in informal mentoring programs. Our leadership structure includes a Student Executive, made up of our Head Boy and Head Girl and leaders from Years 7 to 12 of Community, Sport, Culture, ICT and Ministry.
At our whole school assembly this week, the current Year 12 leaders commenced the handing over of the leadership mantle by announcing the 2022 Senior Student Leadership Team to the College community.
This important phase in the life of our leaders at Servite ensures that the unbroken line of senior leaders continues. In passing over the mantle, our current leaders charge the incoming students with the important responsibility of leading our school and modelling what it means to be Servite. The process formally concludes in Term 4.
Whilst we will formally farewell our Year 12 Student Leadership Team later in the year, it is appropriate at this time to recognise the important impact that they have had on the College. Led by Head Girl Anika Desai and Head Boy Jonathan Marchesi, the leadership team is to be applauded for the inclusive and energic way that they have led our College community. They have modelled what it means to live out our Servite values through their actions and positive influence of others. We acknowledge their outstanding service to our community.
In looking forward to 2022 we welcome our incoming senior student leaders and acknowledge their courage to lead. We look forward to the positive impact that they will have on our Servite story next year. Congratulations and best wishes to our 2022 senior leadership group:

We know that leadership can take shape in many forms, whether supporting the development of whole school initiatives and strategies or by promoting what we value through their actions and influence on other people.

Year 12 Students
Our thoughts are very much with our Year 12 students as they progress toward their graduation next term. Students are nearing the completion of their courses with many having exams scheduled soon. We encourage our students to continue to work hard throughout the exam period and to seek out support from teachers and peers in a bid to maximise their performance.
Our Curtin UniReady and Murdoch FlexiTrack students have worked hard this year with many looking forward to an exciting transition into university life next year.
Our Vocational students meanwhile can look forward to continued support form teachers and the Pathways Team to assist their progression into TAFE or workplace options.
