iServi News | 25 September 2020 | Term 3, Week 10
2021 Leaders
In a fitting conclusion to another busy and fulfilling term at Servite, we paused to celebrate as a community at whole school assembly on Friday. In utilising our technology platforms, and to support current COVID restrictions, we again live streamed the assembly to all classes across the College. We were pleased however to have our Year 12 students attend the event live in the Auditorium.
As is traditional at the final assembly in Term 3, the current Year 12 leaders commenced the formal handing over of the leadership mantle by announcing the 2021 Senior Student Leadership Team to the College community. The process concludes at our Awards Nights Ceremony in Term 4.
This important phase in the life of our leaders at Servite ensures that the unbroken line of senior leaders continues. In passing over the mantle, our current leaders charge the incoming students with the important responsibility of leading our school and modelling what it means to be Servite.
We will formally farewell our Year 12 Student Leadership Team at Awards Night but it is appropriate at this time to recognise the important impact that they have had on the life of the school. Led by Head Girl Demi Mammoliti and Head Boy Marco Acciari, the group is to be applauded for their joy and zest. Their energy has been infectious and they have demonstrated a commitment to serving others. The students have led the College in an unprecedented time and have provided a strong sense of companionship and security in an often uncertain environment. Our student leaders have been innovative in their approach to address the challenges that they have experienced this year due to COVID. This agility and the capacity to deliver in uncertain times will stand them in very good stead for the future.
In looking forward to 2021 we warmly welcome our incoming leaders to their roles and thank them for having the courage to lead. We look forward to the positive impact that they will have on our Servite story next year. Congratulations and best wishes to our incoming senior leadership group:

Performing Arts Showcase
It was a real privilege to be able to attend the College’s Performing Arts Showcase in the Auditorium on Thursday evening this week. This outstanding event showcased the many and varied talents of our exceptional Performing Arts students.
We were saddened not to be able to hold our biennial whole school musical this year due to COVID, so it was wonderful to see elements of our scheduled production of The Adams Family expertly woven throughout the showcase.
The Adams Family cast sang and danced throughout the evening and introduced many other outstanding dance, drama and musical performances. We were so proud of all of our students who performed on the evening. They displayed great courage, skill, energy and enthusiasm in entertaining a thoroughly engrossed crowd throughout the evening. The students are to be commended for the many months of hard work and preparation in the lead up to the showcase. Their dedicated efforts ensured an excellent Performing Arts Showcase.
We are grateful to the many parents, caregivers and families who were able to attend the event. We thank you as always for your support.
Of course, we also need to acknowledge our amazing Performing Arts staff for their work in the lead up to and during the event. We thank Acting Performing Arts Coordinator Ms Kirsty Greenland, along with her team of Ms Melissa Ierace, Mr Riley Burrows and Ms Kara Beatty, for their dedication and incredible support of our students. We are also very grateful to Mr Rick Williams, Mr Evan Georgopoulos and Mr Julian Agnello for their terrific IT support and to Mrs Nerida Williams for managing the backstage operations.
The Performing Arts is such an important part of the culture of our school. It offers a pathway for our talented students to shine. It provides them with an authentic audience offering immediate feedback and thereby an excellent learning opportunity. We are thrilled to see the Performing Arts continuing to flourish at our school and warmly encourage all of our students to become involved.
Year 12 Students
Our thoughts are very much with our Year 12 students as they progress toward their graduation next term. Students are nearing the completion of their courses with many having exams scheduled soon.
Exams play an integral part in allowing students to demonstrate their learning and so we have been working with them to hone their skills in preparation for their upcoming College based and WACE exams. Students are encouraged to work hard and seek support from teachers and peers in a bid to maximise their end result to support a broader range of pathway options for next year.
In the Uni MyWay pathway, our Curtin UniReady and Murdoch FlexiTrack students continue to strive toward the completion of their courses and are likewise encouraged to give of their best right to the finish to secure their preferred university pathway in 2021. In the Voc MyWay pathway, our Vocational students can look forward to continued support form teachers and the Pathways Team to assist their progression into TAFE or workplace options.
Whichever pathway students have chosen, there still remains some key common ingredients for success including high levels of effort and application and seeking out feedback from teachers and peers to support ongoing learning.
We wish our Year 12 students all of the very best in the upcoming weeks and look forward to celebrating their graduation from the College next term.
Holidays
As always at the end of the term, I like to wish our students and their families all of the very best for the holiday break. I hope that you take the opportunity to spend some quality time together.
Families are reminded to notify your Head of Community if you will be travelling during the holiday break, and to please advise the College of Student Absences via email to absent@servite.wa.edu.au or by phone on (08) 9208 0999.
In what has been an exceptional year, it is important as always to acknowledge the dedication of our College staff. They have consistently put the needs of our students first to ensure the ongoing delivery of quality learning opportunities. We wish our staff a well-earned rest over the holiday break.
