Building Community
As a school with Community as one of its core charisms, we promote an environment that is inclusive and accepting of all. This philosophy underpins our vision to personalise learning for all of our students as we see them as unique and special individuals.
In living out this sense of community, we challenge all within our school to treat one another with deep respect and open hospitality. Our expectation is that respect is woven into every interaction with others and is a core ingredient to upholding quality, positive relationships with others. In being hospitable, we see others for who they are, acknowledge their gifts and talents and look to how we can support and care for them. We therefore have very high expectation of how people treat one another in our community.
In a strategic sense, Community is of course one of our College’s core domains. Our vision for Community is grouped into three dimensions: Wellness; Belonging and Connecting; and Building Relationships. These dimensions drive our planning and describe the key elements of Community at Servite.
Our aim is to develop and maintain the optimum functioning of students in a community that promotes and reflects a positive climate and culture for whole school wellbeing.
Servite identifies that there is a strong relationship between learning and a person’s wellbeing. Through an understanding of modern social and emotional learning, our students are provided with opportunities to grow into responsible, independent and resilient young people
Through a genuine sense belonging to our College, we endeavour to develop students that feel safe, happy, well, motivated and confident to explore new learnings and grow their talents. A sense of belonging improves self-esteem, self-efficacy and motivation. Being connected is also about students and families knowing they can seek support when they need it, that they will be listened to, and that as a community we can work together to help.
Healthy relationships enhance wellness and learning performance. Our culture and curriculum support students in building successful relationships at school and with their families, friends, parishes and the wider community. We aim to instil in our students attitudes and behaviours that enable fulfilling learning, family, work and life journeys.
We want all of our students to feel well, connected and to develop positive relationships with others. We have developed core curriculum, pastoral and ministry programs and structures to support this vision for our community and encourage students to utilise these strategies to the full and always reach out to others in time of need. We want our students to thrive and to develop into whole persons who can positively shape the environment around them.
