Leadership at Servite
This week we were pleased to hold our inaugural Student Leaders’ Breakfast Forum in the Alexis Research Centre. This event brought student leaders from across all year levels and portfolios together to share ideas and to contribute to key strategic initiatives currently under consideration at the College.
We are firm believers that student leadership is more than just a transactional role. We want our students to input their considerable skills and ideas to support the ongoing growth and development of the school. We are very interested in giving students a strong voice in how they would like their school to look and feel. We aim to provide an engaging learning environment for our students and therefore need to hear what they have to say to ensure our planning has genuine impact.
Our students were great contributors at the breakfast forum which was chaired by Head Girl Tess Ryan and Head Boy Anthony Ryan. The key discussion was our Masterplan and how we could build a strong sense of ownership amongst students for the effective use of the spaces being developed. Students also had the opportunity to input ideas into some of the future Masterplan concepts being considered.
In addition to allowing input from students, the Student Leaders’ Breakfast Forum also provided them with the chance to utilise and further develop important communication and collaboration skills which are essential for effectively working in teams. In expressing their ideas to others in a public forum, students grow in confidence and learn the skill of shaping key ideas and concepts to maximise their impact on the audience.
The Forum also promotes the development of entrepreneurial skills in students which make up an important part of our learning vision. These are the skills that will set our students up for future success as they venture into our future world. Through leadership and learning opportunities, our students develop an understanding that successful enterprise management is dependent on careful planning and consideration of many factors, which they may or may not be able to control. They learn the importance of seeking and creating connections which contribute to successful outcomes and that enterprise is about exploring opportunities and making informed choices.
We acknowledge all of our students who have stepped forward to lead at our College. We promote our student leaders as servants who offer their gifts and talents to help others. At our Forum, and in many countless other circumstances, our student leaders have consistently demonstrated the capacity to look outwards to the needs of others and to support the implementation of our College vision. Their strong contribution of exciting ideas and new initiatives will ensure the ongoing development of a caring, just and innovative Catholic school that strives to the provide engaging and relevant learning opportunities for its students.
We have a multitude of leadership opportunities available at Servite and strongly encourage students to become involved. We also understand that all students can lead through their supportive actions toward others in building a culture where all students can confidently explore their talents to ‘become all that they were created to be’. Whist some students thrive in a formal leadership position, others have strong impact through modelling the wonderfully rich Servite values that have positively shaped our community for years.
St Juliana’s Mass
Next Tuesday 18 June we will be celebrating the Feast of one of our Patron Saints, St Juliana. We will celebrate Mass together as a College Community on this day. One of our Servite charisms is service and we value justice and mercy. As such, the Student Leadership Team have organised to have a Jeans Day Fundraiser for a gold coin donation to support Centrecare. Students are permitted to wear jeans (with no rips) with their Priory/Sport Shirt and Jacket with sport shoes for a gold coin donation to be collected in Homeroom. Should students not wish to join in the Fundraiser, then the normal Priory uniform will apply.
