iServi News | 21 February 2020 | Term 1, Week 3
With the beginning of Lent commencing next week, we are about to enter the 2020 Project Compassion campaign. Caritas Australia’s annual Lenten fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, Project Compassion brings us together in solidarity with the world’s poor to help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
In preparation for our support of Project Compassion, we have appointed one student Project Compassion Ambassadors (PCAs) for each Homeroom. This is an excellent leadership formation experience and learning opportunity for students.
The PCAs have the responsibility of advocating for Caritas within their Homeroom and encouraging their class to donate to Project Compassion. The PCA will be given the collection box and information they can use to promote Project Compassion. They will be supported by the Homeroom teacher and Priory Captains.
As part of their training, all Project Compassion Ambassadors are invited to attend the launch of Project Compassion. The PC20 Launch, which includes the celebration of Mass and a Just Leadership workshop, will be held on Shrove Tuesday 25 February 2020.
Our participating students will deepen their understanding of the pivotal role that young people play in heightening the school community’s awareness of Catholic Social Teaching and social justice issues – globally, nationally and locally.
