Congratulations to Year 12 student Jovan Fidanovski (OLS7) on being selected to participate in the 2021 Western Australian YMCA Youth Parliament. The YMCA Youth Parliament is a national project that provides the opportunity for young people between the ages of 15-25 years to comment on government policy and decision making and have their voices heard. Jovan will be representing Mr David Michael MLA, the Member for Balcatta and he is also a member of the Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs committee. Jovan is passionate about politics and we look forward to hearing about his amazing experiences during the year. More information about the YMCA Youth Parliament is available here.

Meeting with Mr David Michael MLA, Member for Balcatta
This Term I was accepted into the 2021 YMCA’s Youth Parliament, and am the Youth Member for the electorate of Balcatta. Recently, I was fortunate to meet with Mr David Michael MLA, the Member for Balcatta.
During the meeting, we discussed the electorate of Balcatta and the role of a member of parliament. Mr Michael kindly shared some stories about his parliamentary journey and recent events he has been involved in. Part of the Youth Parliament experience is to develop a bill (proposed law) and some Youth Members have been tasked to develop the ‘Skills for Post-Secondary Education Curriculum System Bill 2021’. Mr Michael was extremely helpful in assisting me to make suitable amendments to the bill.
Mr Michael is a Servite graduate and we spoke a lot about Servite. More specifically, he shared his experience how the College has changed since he was a student and most of all, what it means to be a Servite.
I look forward to continuing to liaise with Mr Michael and representing the electorate of Balcatta in YMCA’s Youth Parliament.
