iServi News | 27 September 2019 | Term 3, Week 10
We have a budding artist in our midst! Nena Mardania, Year 9 Servite College and Telethon Speech and Hearing Outpost student, recently showcased her artistic talents while preparing for her end-of-year portfolio.
Nena’s journey with TSH began at age four, when she joined an early intervention program for hearing loss after moving to Australia from Kenya.
Servite College and TSH set up a special program to accommodate Nena’s learning needs. This collaborative approach enables Nena to learn at her own pace and to experience success in the areas she loves. Nena’s favourite subject is art and she really excels here. She has produced strong pieces that have really impressed her teachers.
About Nena’s art
- Lino printing of a dog – Nena had to work very carefully with a knife to cut the picture into the lino before applying colour so she could make a print.
- Butterflies – Nena wants to re-work this as she thinks it needs more colour.
- Perth cityscape – This was copied from a photograph and interpreted with colour.
What you might not know about Nena
Nena has ambitions to get a job at Woolworths so she can save for her car. She’s expecting a BMW but would be happy with a Mazda. Nena is already working hard to get her learner’s permit and is quite sure she will be a safe driver. She keeps a very close watch on her older brother to make sure he obeys all the rules. Nena will get some support with learning to drive through Servite College next year and hopes to have a license by the end of the year. She wants to drive to school and to visit with her friends.
Congratulations Nena, we are very proud of your efforts and achievements.
