Coordinated by our Year 7 students, the College has collected donations for the 2019 St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper Appeal. Vinnies do amazing work to help those in the community who are experiencing hardship and we have welcomed the opportunity to help families experience a more joyful Christmas.
The confronting truth is that one in six Australian children live in poverty. One in five children won’t have enough to eat. The Christmas Hamper Appeal campaign poster depicts 11-year-old Sam. After Sam and his mum, Laura, fled from an abusive home, they found themselves barely able to cover the rent. With almost nothing left over for food, Laura and Sam started feeling the pain of hunger.
At our final Assembly today, our Year 7 Councillors presented a representative hamper from each Priory to St Vincent de Paul representative Mr Terry Hann.
The kindness of our College community means we can help provide essential assistance to families this Christmas, making sure children are fed, have a roof over their head and a special little something under the tree.
