iServi News | 24 July 2020 | Term 3, Week 1
Servite College’s first Virtual Art Showcase is being launched today. It includes works from Semester 1 Visual Art students – Year 7 to 12 inclusive. Many of these works were either started or partially completed whilst the students were remote learning.
There will be a range of work on display across a broad range of themes, styles and techniques.
The Year 7 students have been investigating Aboriginal art and creating their own hand stencils and dot paintings, whilst Year 8s focused on a Birthday Party theme, recreating a party still life through drawing, painting and ceramics.
One class of Year 9 students completed Portrait paintings using oil paint and rendering with a chiaroscuro technique. The other Year 9 group focused on the technique of Lino printing, creating heavily textured designs.
The work of Tim Burton featured heavily in the Year 10 Art pieces where they looked at creating a ‘menacing’ atmosphere in their drawings and sculptures.
Year 11 students in the ATAR course worked with the theme of Oceanic sculptures using a varied range of sculptural material. Each piece produced was individually unique and told its own story.
Across the Year 12 courses, students in the General course worked on building Surrealist sculptures from found objects, whilst the ATAR students created paintings based on a social comment of their choice. When you click on their art pieces, you can read about the ideas and influences that helped create their art.
