iServi News | 6 December 2019 | Term 4, Week 7
The big day has finally rolled round and we boarded our flight to Brisbane this morning! After all our preparations and arrangements spanning the year, with training and fundraising and qualifying tournaments, we are super eager to get this amazing tour underway. The nine days on the Gold Coast competing in the largest competitive schools’ event in the Southern Hemisphere commences with a six and a half hour flight to Brisbane.
We have many plans for our time away; especially a number of outings and activities to notable tourist attractions in Queensland. But ultimately our main purpose and priority is to play some competitive volleyball and represent the Servite Volleyball Squad with pride. The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup commences with an Opening Ceremony on Saturday 7 December, where our team will finally get to parade their banner, donned the ‘Servite Storm’.
During the six days of fixtured matches, the girls will be playing two to three games every day and conducting one duty each day (where we are responsible for refereeing and scoring). We seek to perform well in all the preliminary matches with the goal of reaching the finals on Saturday 14 December.
Our team will be wearing their very smart looking new volleyball playing kits. The girls are very pleased with new design and especially love the players’ surnames printed on the backs.
Whilst we are away, I will be posting regular updates about our movements on the Servite Volleyball Gold Coast Tour Facebook page. These updates will range from game results, tournament information, the activities and sights the team experiences, various photos and other points of interest.
