iServi News | 29 November 2019 | Term 4, Week 7
The bookings are complete, the bags are being packed and next Friday 6 December, our Year 8/9 Girls Volleyball Team, managers Ms Marevic and Ms Brown, and coach Jasmine Truong will be boarding the 7.00am flight to Brisbane. The Australian Volleyball Schools Cup (AVSC) being held on the Gold Coast has rolled round so quickly and the girls are buzzing in anticipation. With one final training session remaining next Wednesday, we cannot prepare any more than we have all year!
Fundraising finished
The third and final Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Osbourne Park on Saturday 23 November was a positive success. We started early with the set-up roster commencing at 7.00am. The day proved long in the heat of the sunny Saturday before finishing up at 4.00pm. Successful as it was, I’m sure the players and parents were relieved to know it was the last one before the trip. The players and parents worked hard throughout the day to serve the gardeners and home improvers in our community with some top-quality hot dogs.
Our buns came once again from La Pagnotta Bakery in Malaga, and our sausages were donated by The Good Food Butchery & Kitchen who provided 100, and Silvestro Butchers who provided the remaining 250 required. We sincerely thank these local businesses for their contributions to our Servite Volleyball Squad and to the touring team, their assistance enabled a far greater turnover and we appreciate their generosity.
We would like to thank all the members of the Servite Community; staff, student, family and friends, who attended or supported any of the fundraising initiatives the touring team facilitated in the last two months. It gives me such joy to see you all get behind our girls in their bid to represent our College and Volleyball on a national stage.
Banner design complete
The touring team has worked hard over the last couple of months to create the team banner which will be showcased during the Australian Volleyball School’s Cup Opening Ceremony, 7 December, 2019. The rules were simple – ‘anything you want it to be’. The banner was designed by the team’s resident artist Arianna Buonocore and its creation was facilitated by the team’s equally arty coach Jasmine Truong, who guided the girls throughout the painting process.
We have a final product and the banner has turned out phenomenally! I am confident we may even be in the running to win ‘Best Banner Design’ which is judged by the AVSC event organiser during the ceremony’s proceedings and announced during the tournament’s Closing Ceremony on 14 December.
Without further ado, I present the ‘Servite Storm’:
