As part of the year 10 Family, Community and You course, we were required to produce a gift basket to give to the new mothers at a Catholic organisation called Pregnancy Assist. Isabella and I produced a basket that contained the necessities that any new parent would need in the early stages after birth. Some of the things our basket contained were baby bath, formula, a blanket (that we made ourselves), baby bottles, dummies, nappies, clothes and nursing pads. We also decided to include some treats for the new mum such as a magazine and perfume.
Pregnancy Assist is an organisation that provides care and support to all women in need throughout their pregnancy and postpartum. Their services are free and confidential, and they help anyone regardless of religion, race, demographic or personal values. This organisation provides a safe space in which all pregnant women can have easy access to and be supported throughout their pregnancy to have the freedom to make healthy decisions.
Some of their services include pregnancy testing, professional counselling, emotional support, practical material support (clothes, nappies, etc.), information on pregnancy and abortion, accommodation advocacy and budget assistance. Pregnancy Assist’s mission statement is, “To provide relief of poverty, suffering, distress, misfortune, destitution or helplessness for pregnant women of all sections of the public irrespective of race, colour or creed.”
We really enjoyed doing this task for such a worthy cause.
