Year 10 Legal Aid Presentation
As part of our Pastoral Care Program, this week our Year 10 students welcomed a lawyer from Legal Aid to deliver a presentation on criminal responsibility. During the session, we explored how various criminal activities are dealt with by the police and the penalties that can result from them. Students were very interested to learn how young a person is when criminal responsibility applies.
The presentation covered the topics of fights (including illegal filming), stealing and how it escalates to robbery, consent and the laws that apply to this, image-based abuse and family violence. It concluded with information on the rights and responsibilities of young people in regard to the law and law enforcement officers. The students had many questions and the presenter was most obliging in responding to them. We also encouraged them to go home and speak to their families about the knowledge they had gained.
If anyone has any queries about the presentation, they can email or ring me at the College.
